Welcome to YMCA Gumdale OSHC
YMCA has been a part of the Gumdale State School
community since September 2014 and are excited to be a permanent fixture in the
future of Gumdale State School. As a service we strive to ensure all
young people are provided with opportunities to belong, learn, grow and be
happy.
Our Team
YMCA Gumdale OSHC has a strong team of twenty
educators. Many of our casual team members are currently enrolled in full time
study in the field of education and, bring a range of innovative ideas to our
service each day.
The team is led by Melissa Troncoso as the
service’s Coordinator and, Assistant Coordinator James Woodgate.
Melissa Troncoso has completed a Diploma in
Teaching and Diploma in Children’s Services. She has 30 plus years as working
as a teacher in Qld schools and Child Care. Melissa has 4 children of her own
and 2 foster children, the youngest being in high school. As a single parent,
who used OSHC, Melissa understands the difficulties of having to leave children
in care and is excited to build a team of Educators that understand the needs
and concerns of parents and who demonstrate the core values of the YMCA
(respect, caring, honesty and responsibility).
James Woodgate is studying a Diploma in early
childhood and has over 7 years’ experience in the childcare industry. James is
young, athletic and is dedicated to helping children to discover their
interests and talents. James has been a part of the Gumdale community for
several years and is dedicated to ensuring YMCA Gumdale OSHC is a warm,
friendly and welcoming place for families.
Our Program
Our Program is developed according to the My Time
Our Place Framework and is centralised around the elements of
Belonging, Being and Becoming. Through our program
we have created an environment which is safe, inclusive, diverse, engaging and
fun. By learning through play, our children are encouraged to discover and
explore their world and cultivate a sense of self. We believe all children are
born with the desire and ability to develop, learn and explore and deserve to
have opportunities and experiences that challenge their diverse needs.
Our Service
YMCA Gumdale OSHC is ideally located on the grounds
of Gumdale State School. Our purpose built facility was specifically designed
to provide paramount outside school hour’s care to the residents of Gumdale and
surrounds. Our OSHC service is located in the centre of the school
ensuring student safety and creating convenience for our parents, with just
short walk from the school carpark.
With access to numerous spaces within the school
grounds, YMCA Gumdale has the resources to offer an incredibly diverse range of
games and activities for your children to enjoy. The stability and quality
offered by the support of YMCA Brisbane, including over 150 years of
experience, and Thirty-Three OSHC services, guarantees every child is given the
opportunity to grow in body, mind and spirit.
