National Science Week 12-20 August 2017

The school theme for this year is ‘Future Earth’ . The aim is to raise awareness of sustainability science and all of the sciences – social, natural and applied – and encourage positive actions that make a direct contribution to the Earth becoming more sustainable. Gumdale will be celebrating with a week of workshops, demonstrations, shows and more.

Itinerary so far:

Monday 14 August – Robotics Club demonstration and activities.

Tuesday 15 August – Rethink Refuel Recover stage show for years 1-6. Permission slips and payment due Friday 4 August.

Thursday 17 August – As you may be aware the single use plastic bag will be banned in Queensland from July 2018 and Coles and Woolworths have announced they will begin phasing them out sooner. But do not worry as our Year 4 STEAM club have designed a sustainable solution! Students of Gumdale State School have the opportunity to purchase a designer upcycled bag for just $2. Limited numbers available. Bring your $2 on Thursday August 17!

Friday 18 August 11:30am – An interactive virtual classroom forum with a panel of Australian SPACE experts that will discuss all things space - think mission control, lasers, telescopes and space junk. Aimed for years 4-6 with limited seats available. Students need to register their interest with Mrs Sheppard by Friday 11 August.
