RQYS Sailing Program

31/03/2017

This term students in years 4 and 6 participated in a sailing program at RQYS in Manly. Students attended 4 sessions which were led by qualified sailing instructors. Year 6 students participated in a ‘Marine Sports Program’, learning the basics of windsurfing, stand-up paddle boarding and sailing in a trimaran and dingy. Students in year 4 learnt the basics of sailing, boat handling and the essential background sailing theory in a ‘Tackers Introduction’ learn to sail program.

Students have really enjoyed their sessions at RQYS

Throughout 2017, all students in years 2-5 will be given the opportunity to participate in a ‘learn to sail’ program. Next term, remaining year 4 students will have the option to attend 4 ‘Tackers Introduction’ sessions.

Throughout the 4 days you see yourself progressing as a young windsurfer who is entirely new to the sport, due to the helpful instructors that not just only assist but guide you through the experience. Students together are developing as a team and are encouraged to participate in various activities. Including my personal favourite, the relay.’ Jack, Year 6

I enjoyed going out in the water and capsizing. Zhenghao, Year 4

I liked sailing because it’s fun, takes time and is relaxing. Matthew, Year 4

I loved falling like a leaf because we had to lean over and fall onto the water from our shoulders.   Alex, Year 6

Stand up Paddle Boarding was my favourite activity. We learnt how to hold and use the paddles correctly and also how to safely mount and dismount the board. Grace, Year 6

Everyone was smiling and laughing. It was amazing fun and I would love to do it again. Saskia, Year 6
