Sharpen your sailing skills sooner at RQYS Development Squad at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Brisbane, QLD

The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, are now offering up and coming youth sailors the opportunity to take greater command of their sailing journey.
The Development Squad is designed to fast-track promising and enthusiastic youth sailors through the Tackers beginner programs so that they can get sailing independently and ultimately start racing and competing sooner.

In the same time that it would take to complete one of the three Tackers programs, Development Squad sailors are able to progress through all three programs (Tackers 1, 2 and 3) and enter Green Fleet well ahead of their peers.

Development Squad sailors will benefit from more intensive training and coaching in a smaller group with highly experienced and supportive instructors; so as to help the students to improve their already strong sailing competencies and develop their competitive confidence sooner.

The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron has a strong track record of producing high-performance sailors, including five of the 11 Rio 2016 Olympians, one of whom continued on to participate in the recent America’s Cup in Bermuda.
RQYS is also hosting a number of national and international regattas at the Squadron over December 2017 / January 2018, including the Australian Optimist Championships for those Development Squad sailors who excel in their program.

The  Development Squad is a fantastic opportunity for young sailors to hone their skills and move forward in a sport which has many opportunities for local, state, national and international participation and representation.

Students are invited to express their interest in attending a Squad Try-Out Day on Sunday the 13th of August, at which time RQYS will recruit for the first intake of the Development Squad. Please contact the Sailing Academy on 3396 8666 or sailingacademy@rqys.com.au to register to attend.

The Development Squad sailors will be expected to attending training sessions on either Tuesdays and Thursdays from 15:30 – 17:30, and the program will cost $150 per student, per term.
