Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in schools, libraries, childcare centres, bookshops and many other places around the country. This campaign, now in its 17th year, aims to encourage more young Australians to enjoy reading.  This year on Wednesday 24 May at 11am, we are sharing ‘The Cow Tripped over the Moon’ written by Tony Wilson and Illustrated by Laura Wood.

2017 Premier’s Reading Challenge - 15 May to 25 August

Open to all students, the Premier’s reading challenge is not a competition but the opportunity to actively engage their imagination – reading widely for pleasure and learning. The Premier has set the challenge for students in Prep to Year 2 to read or experience 20 books, Years 3 and 4 to read 20 books and Years 5 and 6 to read 15 Books.  The aim for the 2017 Challenge is to engage more students than ever before! Last year 165,000 students from 900 schools read 2.24 million books, an impressive rise from 1.95 million books read in 2015.
