On behalf of all associated with the school, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all parents and children. At Gumdale State School, we aim to prepare pupils to take their place as contributing community members of the future and to be well-mannered, industrious pupils of the present. We strive to make this school a secure and happy environment in which each student will feel important as an individual. We look forward to working with parents towards the development of each child.

Our school has catered for the Gumdale and surrounding community since 1935, offering unique, quality educational activities and experiences which have added greatly to the character of the school.

In the past, Gumdale was a small school in relation to other Brisbane schools and its population has been relatively stable, however, housing development in the area has resulted in enrolment growth. It is not unusual to find several generations of families who have attended Gumdale School and benefited from its personal and friendly atmosphere.

Perhaps this is why the community has been actively interested in the school throughout the years. The school, for its part, has earnestly endeavoured to reflect the high community values of the area, with the result that the school has become an extension of the children’s homes, and parents and teachers are clearly seen as partners in the children’s education.

Increasing enrolment growth has resulted in the need for additional facilities and consequently, an Enrolment Management Plan, which ensures children who reside within our catchment area have priority when enrolments are considered. Buildings are basically a mixture of old and new in the light of contemporary standards of classroom size and design. They are well maintained and the grounds are equally well cared for, well laid out, pleasant, clean and spacious.

The Parents and Citizens Association and its Committees, Tuckshop and Student Council generously support endeavours to supplement standard allocations of teaching and learning resources, which is very much appreciated.

Staff at Gumdale State School are child oriented, performing many duties beyond school hours. It is this quality, together with many other professional attributes, that has combined to make the school what it is and thereby gain the respect and trust of the community as a whole.

As Acting Principal for the rest of 2009 I would like to add my welcome to that of Theresa. It is my pleasure to be leading the school community for the rest of this year. It is a great school with many exciting things happening. Student learning is the focus of all that we do and I have been very impressed with the high standards maintained in all areas of student life at the school. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time – through the school office.
